About the Group

The Friends of Warwick Bushland (FWB) is a community group that cares for the Warwick Conservation Reserve and Warwick Senior High School Bushland. FWB undertake regular events to share their love of the bushland with others and show people it's wonders during various seasons. FWB also mount displays at various community events.

Bush care activities are currently held quarterly. The group also works with the land managers, the City of Joondalup and Warwick Senior High School, to help control threats such as arson, weed invasion, rubbish dumping and feral animals (foxes and rabbits). Over the years funding has been obtained to undertake works such as fencing, employing bush regenerators and developing display materials.

The FWB group was founded by Robyn McElroy in 1997 to care, initially, for the high school bushland. In 1999, Robyn encouraged Karen Clarke to step up and help lead the group so that FWB could expand the area they covered to include the Warwick Conservation Reserve.  Together Robyn and Karen led the group for many years. In 2006 Janina Pezzarini stepped in as Coordinator, continuing until 2012.

Warwick Bushland is in the suburb of Warwick and occupies the far south-east corner of the City of Joondalup . It is bounded by Erindale, Beach, Warwick and Wanneroo Roads and is only 15 minutes from central Perth.

Warwick Conservation Reserve is protected by the state government's Bush Forever conservation plan as an important example of its type. This bushland was once widespread on the spearwood dunes of the Swan Coastal Plain upon which Perth is built.

Warwick Bushland is not only significant to the people of Perth, it is internationally significant as a conservation area in the unique landscape of south-west Western Australia. Southwest Australia is recognised as one of the 34 most remarkable places on Earth, a Biodiversity Hotspot. These Hotspots are the richest and most threatened reservoirs of life on Earth with numerous unique species and habitats.

Warwick Bushland is also registered as a Land for Wildlife site with the Department of Parks and Wildlife.
